How to Clear Body Acne on Your Backside

Treat butt acne like face acne with gentle exfoliation, salicylic acid, and breathable fabrics.

Body acne responds to the same ingredients as face acne, just with less drama and faster results.

  1. Switch to a salicylic acid body wash. Use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser on the area daily. The BHA will unclog pores without over-drying. Skip scrubs which irritate inflamed skin.
  2. Exfoliate twice weekly. Use a soft washcloth or konjac sponge to gently remove dead skin buildup. Do this before applying any treatments so they can penetrate properly.
  3. Apply benzoyl peroxide treatment. Spot-treat active bumps with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide after showering. Start every other day to avoid irritation, then increase frequency as skin adjusts.
  4. Choose breathable fabrics. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes when possible. Synthetic fabrics trap sweat and bacteria against skin, worsening breakouts.
  5. Shower immediately after sweating. Don't sit in workout clothes or wet swimwear. The longer bacteria and moisture stay on skin, the more likely pores will clog.
