How to Steam Your Face at Home with a Bowl

Pour hot water in a bowl, lean over with a towel draped over your head, and steam for 5-10 minutes to open pores and soften skin.

Steam is just heat and water doing what they do best. Skip the expensive gadgets and essential oil sales pitches.

  1. Set up your steam station. Fill a large bowl with very hot water and place it on a stable surface at comfortable height. Add a few drops of essential oil if you want, but plain water works perfectly.
  2. Create your steam tent. Drape a large towel over your head and shoulders, creating a tent over the bowl. Keep your face 12-18 inches from the water to avoid burns.
  3. Steam and breathe. Close your eyes and breathe normally for 5-10 minutes. If it gets too intense, lift the towel briefly to cool down.
  4. Follow with skincare. Pat your face dry and immediately apply your usual skincare while skin is still damp. This locks in the softening benefits.
