How to Make and Use a Coffee Body Scrub
Mix ground coffee with oil, scrub in circular motions on damp skin, then rinse for smooth, exfoliated skin.
The caffeine absorption through skin is largely marketing fiction, but the mechanical exfoliation is real and effective.
- Mix your scrub base. Combine half a cup of used or fresh ground coffee with 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil or olive oil. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar if you want extra exfoliation. The consistency should hold together but not be too wet.
- Prep your skin. Take a warm shower to soften your skin, then turn off the water. Your skin should be damp but not dripping. This helps the scrub glide smoothly and prevents irritation.
- Apply in sections. Start with your legs and work upward using firm, circular motions. Spend 30 seconds on each area, focusing on rough spots like elbows and knees. Avoid sensitive areas and any cuts or irritation.
- Rinse and moisturize. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, making sure no coffee grounds remain. Pat dry and apply your regular body moisturizer while skin is still slightly damp to lock in hydration.
