How to Exfoliate Your Body Without Going Overboard
Exfoliate 2-3 times per week using gentle, circular motions on damp skin, then always follow with moisturizer.
Most people think they need to scrub harder to see results, but gentle consistency beats aggressive once-in-a-while every time.
- Start with damp skin. Shower first, then turn off the water but stay in the humid environment. Damp skin prevents friction damage and helps your exfoliant glide smoothly instead of dragging.
- Use gentle pressure. Apply your scrub with light, circular motions using just your fingertips or palms. You should feel texture, not pain. Think massage, not sandpaper.
- Work in sections. Start with your feet and work upward, spending 30 seconds per area. Skip sensitive zones like your chest and inner arms where skin is naturally thinner.
- Rinse thoroughly. Use lukewarm water to remove every trace of scrub. Hot water strips oils and defeats the purpose of gentle exfoliation.
- Moisturize immediately. Apply body cream or oil within three minutes while your skin is still damp. This locks in hydration and prevents the tightness that signals over-exfoliation.
