How to Brighten Dark Elbows
Consistent exfoliation and moisturizing will gradually lighten dark elbows over several weeks.
Dark elbows are mechanical damage, not a flaw—treat the cause, not just the symptom.
- Exfoliate twice weekly. Use a sugar scrub or dry brush on damp skin in circular motions. The buildup of dead skin cells is what makes elbows look darker, so regular removal is essential for any brightening to show.
- Apply a brightening ingredient. Use glycolic acid, lactic acid, or vitamin C serum on clean elbows every other night. These ingredients accelerate cell turnover and fade existing pigmentation gradually.
- Moisturize religiously. Apply a thick moisturizer or body oil twice daily, focusing on the elbow crease. Dry skin appears darker and more textured, so hydration is half the battle won.
- Protect during the day. Apply SPF 30 or higher to exposed elbows when wearing short sleeves. UV exposure darkens existing pigmentation and undoes your brightening work.
