How to Care for Hard-to-Reach Back Skin
Use long-handled tools, gentle exfoliation, and strategic application techniques to maintain clear, healthy back skin.
Your back skin deserves the same attention as your face, just with better tools and less drama about reaching it.
- Get the right tools. Invest in a long-handled loofah or silicone body scrubber for cleansing and gentle exfoliation. A back applicator or long-handled moisturizer applicator lets you reach every spot without contorting.
- Cleanse properly in the shower. Use your long-handled tool with a gentle body wash, working from top to bottom. Focus on areas prone to breakouts like shoulders and upper back where hair products tend to accumulate.
- Exfoliate weekly. Once or twice a week, use your tool with a chemical exfoliant body wash containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid. This prevents clogged pores better than harsh scrubbing.
- Apply treatment products strategically. For problem areas, use a spray-on salicylic acid treatment or have someone help apply spot treatments. The spray format eliminates the reach issue entirely.
- Moisturize consistently. Use your back applicator with a lightweight, non-comedogenic body lotion daily. Apply while skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture without creating a greasy film.
