How to Care for Your Feet Weekly

Soak, exfoliate, moisturize, and trim nails once a week to keep feet soft and healthy.

Most people ignore their feet until sandal season, but consistent weekly care prevents the dramatic emergency measures later.

  1. Soak in warm water. Fill a basin with warm water and soak feet for 10-15 minutes to soften skin and nails. Add Epsom salts if you have them, but plain water works perfectly fine.
  2. Exfoliate dead skin. Use a pumice stone or foot file on damp skin to remove calluses and rough patches. Work gently in circular motions, focusing on heels and balls of feet.
  3. Trim and shape nails. Cut toenails straight across to prevent ingrown nails, then smooth edges with a file. Keep nails short enough that they don't catch on socks.
  4. Moisturize thoroughly. Apply a thick foot cream or body lotion to damp feet, paying attention to dry areas like heels. Put on cotton socks afterward to lock in moisture overnight.
