Why winter is different for body skin
Body skin has fewer oil glands per square centimetre than facial skin. In winter, low humidity and heated indoor air create a persistent gradient that draws water out of the upper layers of skin. Add daily hot showers and friction from clothing and the result is skin that tends to feel rough on the shins, tight across the torso.
Winter textures — when to use each
- Body cream — Morning and evening, year-round default
- Body butter PM — Evening on shins, elbows, rough patches
- Body oil + cream — Driest spells, on damp arms
- Humectant serum — Under cream when skin feels tight
