How to Travel with Perfume Without Spills

Decant into small atomizers, wrap in plastic bags, and pack in your toiletry bag's center compartment.

Most perfume disasters happen because people trust flimsy packaging—invest in proper atomizers once and never worry about ruined luggage again.

1. Choose the right containers. Use 5ml travel atomizers with tight-fitting caps, not roll-ons or sample vials. Metal atomizers are sturdier than plastic and won't crack under pressure changes. Test the seal by turning the atomizer upside down for ten minutes before packing.
2. Decant properly. Use a small funnel or the atomizer's filling tube to transfer perfume without air bubbles. Fill only to 80% capacity to allow for expansion during flight. Wipe the exterior completely clean before sealing.
3. Double-wrap everything. Place each atomizer in its own small ziplock bag, then group them in a larger waterproof pouch. This contains any potential leaks and prevents perfume from contaminating other items. Keep the pouch upright in your toiletry bag's most secure compartment.
4. Pack strategically. Position perfumes in the center of your luggage, surrounded by soft items like clothes. Avoid placing them near the edges where impact is strongest. For carry-on, ensure atomizers are under 100ml and fit in your liquids bag.
