How to Make a DIY Body Mist at Home
Mix distilled water with witch hazel and essential oils in a spray bottle for a custom body mist that actually works.
Most people add too many different oils and end up with expensive air freshener โ pick one scent and do it well.
- Gather your base ingredients. You need distilled water, witch hazel or glycerin, and essential oils. Distilled water prevents bacteria, witch hazel acts as a preservative and helps oils disperse, glycerin adds moisture if you prefer a slightly heavier feel.
- Mix the foundation. Combine 3/4 cup distilled water with 2 tablespoons witch hazel in a clean spray bottle. This ratio gives you staying power without stickiness.
- Add your scent. Drop in 10-15 drops of essential oils total. Single notes work best โ lavender, bergamot, or eucalyptus. More complex blends often smell muddy in this format.
- Shake and test. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds, then spray on your wrist. Let it dry completely to judge the scent and feel. Adjust oil drops as needed, but resist going over 20 drops total.
- Store properly. Keep in a cool, dark place and shake before each use. Your mist will stay good for 2-3 months if you used distilled water and kept everything clean.
