The LOC Method for Coily Hair
Coily hair textures often face moisture loss due to the physical structure of the hair shaft. The LOC method acts as a system to seal hydration into the hair cuticle using specific viscosity gradients. This technique requires three distinct product types applied in a rigid sequence.
The process focuses on layering from water-based to oil-based products to prevent evaporation. Consistency is necessary to observe improvements in manageability and texture softness.
- Clarify and detangle. Begin with freshly washed, damp hair. Ensure the hair is saturated with water, as water serves as the primary hydrating agent. Gently detangle using a wide-tooth comb to ensure the products can coat each strand evenly without obstruction.
- Apply your liquid. Divide the hair into four sections. Apply a water-based leave-in conditioner or a diluted moisturizing spray to each section. Work the product from the ends toward the roots using your fingers to ensure full coverage.
- Seal with oil. Apply a light, natural oil over the damp hair. Focus on the ends of the hair, where dryness typically manifests first. The oil functions as a barrier to slow the rate at which water leaves the hair shaft.
- Lock in with cream. Finish by applying a thicker, butter-based cream or hair styling product over the oil. This layer provides structure and further seals the hydration. Smooth the cream downwards along the hair shaft to encourage defined coils.
Hydration is not about the product alone; it is about the order in which it is applied.
