Mastering the Dewy Finish

A dewy finish is defined by the skin's capacity to reflect light. It is a surface quality, not a texture. Achieving it involves minimizing heavy powders and choosing bases that remain flexible on the skin.

This aesthetic is best suited for those seeking a subtle radiance. It is a technical exercise in managing moisture levels.

1. Hydrate the base. Apply a lightweight, water-based moisturizer to clean skin. Allow it to fully absorb for two minutes before proceeding. A tacky base often leads to makeup sliding, so wait for the surface to feel soft but not wet.
2. Apply a liquid tint. Select a sheer liquid foundation or skin tint. Apply with fingers or a brush, focusing on the center of the face. Leave the edges sheer to keep the transition natural.
3. Place cream highlighter. Use a balm-based highlighter on the high points of the face. These areas include the tops of the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose. Tap the product firmly into the skin to blur the edges.
4. Selective setting. Apply a small amount of translucent powder only where absolutely necessary. Target the sides of the nose and the center of the forehead. Leave the rest of the face powder-free to maintain the glow.
5. Final misting. Finish with a fine-mist setting spray to integrate the layers. This step softens the appearance of any visible makeup. Let it dry completely without touching the skin.
