Placement Techniques for Cream Blush
The application of cream blush depends largely on the desired level of diffusion. Placing color under a sheer base provides a soft, internal glow that mimics natural flushing, whereas placing it over the base increases intensity and definition. Neither method is superior, but both yield distinct results in texture and saturation.
Mastering these techniques requires an understanding of how pigment interacts with different formulas. This guide examines the mechanics of layering cream color to ensure a seamless transition between skin and product.
- Prepare the skin surface. Cleanse the face and apply a light moisturizer. Allow the moisturizer to absorb completely into the skin before beginning. A tacky surface can cause patchy distribution, while a dry surface prevents the pigment from blending.
- The under-base technique. Apply a small amount of cream blush to the high points of the cheeks. Blend the edges thoroughly until the color appears diffused. Apply the sheer base over the blush using a patting motion rather than sweeping to avoid moving the pigment underneath.
- The over-base technique. Apply your sheer base to the entire face first. Once set, tap the cream blush onto the apples of the cheeks. Use a clean finger to soften the edges, moving outward toward the hairline to integrate the pigment with the base.
- Final evaluation. Check the symmetry of the placement in natural light. If the intensity is uneven, use a clean sponge to lift excess product from the deeper side. Confirm the finish remains consistent with the surrounding skin.
True transparency is found in the blending, not the intensity of the pigment.
