Precision Concealer Placement

Most mistakes involving concealer stem from over-application. When the product is spread across the entire under-eye area or layered thickly, it inevitably settles into the natural contours of the skin by midday. The goal is to apply coverage only where shadow or discoloration is present, rather than masking the entire orbital bone.

Effective concealer work requires a firm brush and a disciplined hand. By focusing on the inner corner and the specific point of shadow, you maintain the skin's translucency and ensure a long-wearing finish that remains static.

  1. Assess the shadow. Look directly into a mirror with neutral overhead lighting. Identify exactly where the dark shadow begins at the inner corner of the eye and where it tapers off toward the nose. Do not attempt to cover the entire under-eye circle, as this often results in unnecessary bulk.
  2. Apply product to the brush. Apply a small amount of liquid concealer to the back of your hand. Use a small, synthetic brush to pick up a minimal amount of pigment. Loading the brush directly from the applicator usually provides too much product for a precise application.
  3. Deposit at the source. Place the pigment exclusively on the darkest part of the inner corner. Gently pat the product into the skin using the flat edge of the brush. Do not swipe or drag the brush, as this removes the product rather than depositing it into the skin's texture.
  4. Diffuse the edges. Use a clean finger or a damp micro-sponge to lightly press the edges of the concealer outward. The center of the application should remain saturated, while the perimeter should fade seamlessly into your natural skin or foundation. Avoid moving the product away from the target zone.
  5. Set with minimal powder. If you experience creasing, use a tiny amount of translucent setting powder on a small, fluffy brush. Tap the excess off before touching the skin. Lightly dust only over the area where you placed the concealer to lock the pigments in place.
The goal is to address shadow while maintaining the skin's natural translucency.
