Maintaining Neck Skin Texture and Tone

The neck is often neglected during daily maintenance cycles. It possesses a thinner barrier compared to the face and is subjected to repeated flexion throughout the day. Neglect here is usually a matter of omission rather than genetics.

Applying products to the neck requires a specific, upward motion. This guide establishes a baseline for incorporating the neck into your current maintenance routine without the use of specialized, high-cost apparatus.

  1. Cleansing the area. Cleanse the neck with your standard facial wash. Do not use harsh physical scrubs, as the tissue here is delicate. Pat dry with a clean towel instead of rubbing.
  2. Applying moisturizer. Take a nickel-sized amount of a rich, non-fragranced cream. Start at the base of the neck and use upward, sweeping motions. Use your palms to ensure even coverage across the sides.
  3. Sun protection. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF to the front, sides, and back of the neck every morning. If you are wearing a collared shirt, apply it to the exposed skin above the collar. Reapply if you remain outdoors for extended periods.
  4. Securing hydration. In the evening, apply an additional layer of cream to the neck before sleep. Focus on the central vertical band. This prevents overnight moisture loss caused by ambient air.
The neck is an extension of the face; treat it with the same level of architectural care.
