A Logical Approach to Skin Cycling

Skin cycling is an organizational method for your night-time regimen. It prioritizes recovery periods between the application of active ingredients to prevent over-saturation of the moisture barrier. The practice relies on a repeating four-night cadence designed to provide consistency while minimizing irritation.

This method assumes your current products are suitable for your specific tolerance levels. If your skin does not respond well to an active, pause the cycle immediately.

  1. Night one: Exfoliation. Cleanse your face and pat dry. Apply a liquid chemical exfoliant to a cotton round and sweep across the face. Follow with a standard fragrance-free moisturizer. Do not add additional active serums.
  2. Night two: Active application. Cleanse your skin and ensure it is fully dry. Apply a pea-sized amount of a retinol-based treatment to your face. Apply a buffer layer of moisturizer if you experience discomfort. Ensure you avoid the immediate eye area.
  3. Night three: Recovery. Skip all active ingredients tonight. Cleanse and apply a heavy, lipid-rich moisturizer to support the skin barrier. The objective is hydration and sealment. Focus on areas that feel tight or dry.
  4. Night four: Recovery. Repeat the process from night three. This second recovery night is essential for allowing the skin to normalize after the active sessions. Maintain this pattern consistently to allow the skin to adapt to the schedule.
Rest is not a break from your routine; it is the most critical part of it.
