Layering Vitamin C and SPF
The morning routine serves one primary function: environmental defense. By layering a vitamin C serum under a broad-spectrum sunscreen, you are deploying a two-part system designed to address surface-level concerns caused by oxidative stress. Vitamin C acts as a topical antioxidant, while the sunscreen provides a physical or chemical barrier against ultraviolet exposure.
Correct application order is necessary for product efficacy. Without proper spacing, you risk diluting the concentration of your sunscreen or causing uneven texture on the skin.
- Cleanse and dry. Begin with a clean canvas. Use a mild cleanser to remove any residue from the previous evening. Pat the skin completely dry with a clean towel, as moisture can alter the absorption rate of subsequent layers.
- Apply vitamin C. Dispense three to four drops of your chosen vitamin C serum into the palms. Press the liquid into the skin using a flat-handed motion. Avoid tugging or pulling, and ensure the entire surface of the face is coated.
- Wait for absorption. Allow the serum to settle fully. You should be able to touch the skin without feeling a sticky or tacky residue. This waiting period prevents the serum from being wiped away or disrupted during the sunscreen application.
- Layer the sunscreen. Apply your sunscreen in a dense, uniform layer. Use enough product to cover the face and ears. Do not rub the sunscreen in circular motions to the point of absorption; instead, use gentle, vertical strokes to ensure the film remains intact.
Consistency in application order is the foundation of a stable morning routine.
