Layering Peptides and Retinol
The integration of multiple active agents into a single evening routine requires an understanding of texture and molecular weight. Peptides and retinol serve distinct functions, and their combined use is standard practice for those seeking a streamlined evening regimen.
The primary concern when layering is the order of application. By prioritizing product consistency and allowing for adequate absorption, you can utilize both without compromising the efficacy of either.
- Prepare the surface. Cleanse the skin with a mild, non-stripping cleanser to remove environmental pollutants. Pat the skin completely dry with a clean cloth. Damp skin can increase absorption rates, which may lead to unnecessary irritation when using retinoids.
- Apply peptides. Dispense a small amount of your peptide serum onto your fingertips. Press the product gently into the face and neck using upward motions. Allow the product to settle for three full minutes until the skin feels tacky but not wet.
- Layer the retinol. Apply a pea-sized amount of retinol over the peptide layer. Distribute the product evenly across the face, avoiding the immediate orbital bone area. The peptides act as a buffer, allowing the retinol to distribute smoothly over the complexion.
- Seal with moisture. Finish with a standard, inert moisturizer to lock in the previously applied layers. This step ensures that the moisture barrier remains intact throughout the night. Use a formula free from additional active ingredients.
Order of application is the difference between a functional routine and a compromised one.
