A Guide to Daily Sun Protection
Sun protection is the foundational requirement for long-term skin health. While market narratives often focus on restoration, the most pragmatic approach is the prevention of daily incidental exposure. Ultraviolet radiation is present throughout the year, regardless of cloud cover or temperature, and requires consistent defense.
Integrating a broad-spectrum SPF into your morning regimen is not an aesthetic preference but a functional necessity. This guide outlines the mechanics of correct application and volume to ensure full coverage.
- Cleanse and dry the skin. Ensure the face is free of oils or lingering product from the night before. Use a gentle cleanser and pat the skin completely dry with a clean towel. Residual moisture can prevent an even distribution of the product.
- Measure the volume. Squeeze two full lines of product onto your index and middle fingers, extending from the base of the finger to the tip. This volume is the standard required for the face and ears. Do not attempt to thin the formula to make it last longer.
- Dot and distribute. Distribute the measured product in dots across the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Using firm but gentle pressure, spread the product in long, continuous strokes. Focus on areas often missed, such as the hairline and the space beneath the jaw.
- Allow to set. Wait at least thirty seconds for the formula to dry down and form a consistent film before proceeding to other steps or leaving the house. If the product remains tacky, avoid touching it to prevent accidental removal of the protective layer.
Consistent, daily application provides the only meaningful defense against environmental damage.
