A Consistent Approach to AHA Exfoliation
Alpha hydroxy acids are effective tools for addressing surface dullness. Many users mistakenly believe that increasing the potency of an acid leads to better results, but long-term clarity is a function of routine stability. A moderate concentration used at consistent intervals will always outperform aggressive applications.
The objective of this method is to maintain skin texture through scheduled exfoliation. By observing the skin's reaction to a fixed rhythm, you eliminate the guesswork associated with surface-level brightness.
- Cleanse the surface. Begin with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser to remove debris and oils. Use lukewarm water rather than hot, as the goal is to prepare the skin without disrupting its barrier. Pat the skin dry with a clean, soft cloth before proceeding.
- Apply the exfoliant. Dispense a small amount of your chosen AHA onto a clean cotton pad or directly into your palms. Press the liquid into the skin using a firm, pressing motion rather than rubbing. Focus on areas prone to texture, avoiding the immediate eye area.
- Wait for absorption. Allow the exfoliant to sit undisturbed for approximately five minutes. This waiting period allows the acidity to stabilize before adding any subsequent moisture. Do not rinse the product off.
- Seal with moisture. Follow the exfoliation with a simple, fragrance-free moisturizer. This step is essential to replenish hydration and maintain the skin's barrier integrity post-exfoliation. Ensure your moisturizer is fully absorbed before resting or finishing your routine.
Consistency in cadence is the most effective variable for skin texture maintenance.
