Toning Before Vitamin C
Integrating vitamin C into a daily routine often fails due to improper skin preparation. Applying a serum directly to dehydrated or uncleansed skin leads to uneven distribution and suboptimal absorption. A toner acts as the necessary bridge to balance the skin's surface and improve the glide of subsequent active treatments.
This method focuses on achieving a uniform application. By preparing the skin, you ensure that the active ingredient remains evenly distributed across the face.
- Cleanse the surface. Use a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser to remove residue from the night. Pat your skin dry with a clean cloth until it is no longer dripping. Do not rub the skin, as friction causes unnecessary sensitivity.
- Apply your toner. Dispense a small amount of alcohol-free toner onto a clean cotton pad or your palms. Press the liquid into the skin in an upward motion. Ensure the surface is uniformly damp but not saturated.
- Allow for evaporation. Wait for the toner to be nearly absorbed before moving to the next step. The skin should feel slightly tacky to the touch rather than wet. This timing is critical for product layering.
- Apply vitamin C. Dispense three to four drops of vitamin C serum into your hands. Press the product firmly into the skin across the entire face and neck. Avoid dragging the skin downward during this process.
A properly prepared surface is the difference between erratic application and consistent, visible results.
