Pairing Tranexamic and Azelaic Acids
Sun spots and uneven pigmentation often respond to consistent, non-invasive topical maintenance. The combination of tranexamic acid and azelaic acid functions by supporting a uniform appearance of the skin surface over time. This approach requires patience rather than intensity, as the goal is to stabilize the skin barrier while addressing uneven tone.
Begin this protocol only after establishing a simple routine. Ensure your skin is sufficiently hydrated before introducing active components to the face.
- Prepare the surface. Cleanse your face using a pH-balanced wash to remove debris. Pat the skin dry with a clean microfiber towel. Leave the skin slightly damp to aid in the absorption of subsequent layers.
- Apply tranexamic acid. Dispense three to four drops of your tranexamic acid serum into your palms. Press the liquid into the affected areas first, then distribute the remainder across the face. Allow this layer to settle for at least sixty seconds before proceeding.
- Incorporate azelaic acid. Take a pea-sized amount of azelaic acid cream or serum. Dab the product onto areas of concern, using a light tapping motion with your fingertips. Do not rub the product vigorously, as this can cause unnecessary mechanical friction.
- Seal the hydration. Finish the routine by applying a non-comedogenic moisturizer to lock in the actives. This prevents transepidermal water loss overnight. Verify that your moisturizer does not contain fragrance if you have identified previous sensitivity to additives.
Consistency is the primary mechanism for visible change when using topical brighteners.
