Managing the T-Zone with BHA
The T-zone, encompassing the forehead, nose, and chin, often presents a different set of requirements than the rest of the face. When oil production concentrates in these areas, application of BHA—specifically salicylic acid—requires restraint to remain effective without compromising the barrier elsewhere.
Applying an exfoliant to the entire face when only the center requires it can lead to unnecessary dryness. This guide focuses on localized application to maintain equilibrium.
- Cleanse and dry completely. Begin with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser to remove surface debris. Allow the skin to air dry for at least five minutes after washing. Applying acid to damp skin increases penetration, which can cause irritation in sensitive zones.
- Dispense onto a precision tool. Avoid using your palms. Place two drops of the BHA liquid onto a lint-free cotton swab or a reusable silicone pad. This prevents excess product from migrating to the cheeks or under-eye area.
- Apply to the target zones. Press the saturated swab firmly into the pores of the nose, then sweep across the forehead and the center of the chin. Do not rub; use a gentle pressing motion. One pass is sufficient to saturate the area without flooding the skin.
- Allow for complete absorption. Wait ten full minutes before applying any follow-up moisturizer. This interval allows the pH of the BHA to perform its function undisturbed. Do not layer other actives until the surface feels completely dry to the touch.
Precision in application ensures the center remains clear without compromising the rest of the face.
