Double Cleansing for Oily Skin
Double cleansing involves using an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser to remove debris. While often associated with heavy makeup removal, the practice is useful for managing oily skin because oil dissolves oil. By lifting surface impurities effectively, you prevent the buildup that contributes to a dull complexion.
This method prioritizes thoroughness over intensity. You are not scrubbing your face, but rather emulsifying surface oil to ensure the pores remain clear of residual film.
Follow this routine in the evening to reset your skin after a full day.
- Apply oil to dry skin. Dispense a small amount of oil-based cleanser into dry palms. Massage the product onto your dry face in circular motions. Focus on the nose and forehead where oil production is highest. This step breaks down SPF and sebum.
- Add water to activate. Wet your hands with warm water and massage your face again. The oil will turn into a milky texture. This transition confirms the oil is lifting debris from your pores.
- Follow with a water-based gel. Apply a gel-based cleanser to your damp face. Massage for one full minute to ensure all trace amounts of the first oil cleanser are removed. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until the skin feels clean but not tight.
- Pat the skin dry. Use a clean, soft towel to pat your face dry. Do not rub the skin, as friction increases heat and sensitivity. Your face should feel balanced and ready for subsequent hydration.
Oil dissolves oil; use this to your advantage to keep pores clear.
