The Strip-Back Method: Resetting Sensitive Skin

Over-application is a common cause of reactive skin. When the barrier becomes compromised due to the accumulation of various actives or layers, the skin ceases to perform its essential functions efficiently. The strip-back method is a scheduled period of simplification designed to allow the natural protective mantle to recover without interference.

This process requires you to remove all non-essential items from your vanity. By adhering to a strictly foundational regimen for fourteen days, you permit the skin to return to its natural state of homeostasis. Consistency is the primary requirement for this reset.

  1. Cleanse with water alone. In the morning, rinse your face with lukewarm water. Avoid using cleansers at this stage to prevent stripping natural oils. Pat the skin dry with a clean, soft cotton towel.
  2. Apply a simple humectant. While the skin remains slightly damp, apply a basic, fragrance-free moisturizer. Look for formulas that focus on moisture retention without added botanicals or scent. A small amount, roughly the size of a pea, is sufficient for the entire face.
  3. Evening cleansing. Use a gentle, non-foaming cleanser only in the evening to remove surface debris and environmental pollutants. Massage the product in light circular motions for thirty seconds. Rinse thoroughly until no residue remains.
  4. Seal with a heavy moisturizer. After drying, apply a slightly thicker layer of the same moisturizer used in the morning. This seals in hydration throughout the night. Do not introduce serums, oils, or target-specific treatments during this time.
True skin health is defined by what you choose to remove from your routine, not what you add.
