How to Select a Daily Serum

A serum serves as a targeted delivery system for ingredients intended to address surface-level hydration or texture. Unlike cleansers or moisturizers which focus on removal and protection, serums occupy the space between preparation and occlusion. Proper selection requires identifying the specific surface condition you intend to support without overcomplicating your regimen.

The primary mistake in serum selection is layering redundant formulas. Focus on a single primary objective for each cycle to ensure the product functions as intended.

  1. Prepare the surface. Cleanse the skin thoroughly to remove particulate matter and excess oils. Use lukewarm water to ensure the surface is receptive. Pat the face dry with a clean towel, leaving the skin slightly damp for optimal absorption.
  2. Dispense the product. Dispense three to four drops of serum into the palms of your clean hands. Do not allow the dropper to make direct contact with your skin to avoid contamination of the bottle contents. Rub your palms together briefly to warm the product.
  3. Press into the skin. Gently press the palms against the face, starting from the center and moving outward. Use a pressing motion rather than dragging the product across the surface. Ensure the product is evenly distributed across the forehead, cheeks, and chin.
  4. Allow for integration. Wait for the serum to fully sink into the surface before applying any moisturizer or oil. The skin should feel slightly tacky but not wet. If the product remains wet after sixty seconds, you have likely applied an excessive amount.
A serum is a bridge, not a total solution; keep the objective singular.
