Sun Protection: The Neck and Décolletage
Most sun protection protocols terminate at the jawline. This leaves the anterior neck and the upper chest exposed to cumulative environmental light exposure throughout the day. Integrating these zones into your morning habit is a matter of physical redirection rather than additional product.
The skin of the neck is structurally thinner than that of the face, making even application essential. Uniformity is the objective, ensuring no strips of skin are missed during the rapid morning application.
- Dispense the correct volume. Squeeze two full fingers of sunscreen product into your palm. This amount is calibrated to cover the face, the entire neck, and the upper chest area. Do not attempt to stretch a smaller amount across all three zones.
- Apply to the chest first. Begin at the center of your chest, near the collarbones. Use the full surface of your palms to sweep the product outward toward the shoulders. Apply firm pressure to ensure the product adheres to the contours of the clavicle.
- Cover the neck vertically. Apply the remaining product to the palms of your hands and place them at the base of the neck. Sweep upward toward the chin in long, deliberate strokes. Repeat this motion until the product is evenly distributed across the front and sides of the neck.
- Seal the transition. Check the perimeter of your jawline to ensure there is no product accumulation where the neck meets the face. Use your fingertips to tap any excess into the skin behind the ears. Ensure the product has set before applying clothing.
The jawline should not be the border of your protection.
