How to Condition Hair Properly
Apply conditioner mid-length to ends on wet hair, leave for 2-3 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
Most people use too little conditioner and rinse too quickly, then wonder why their hair feels rough.
- Start with clean, wet hair. Shampoo first to remove buildup and open the hair cuticle. Gently squeeze out excess water so hair is damp but not dripping. This prevents diluting the conditioner and ensures better penetration.
- Apply conditioner mid-length to ends. Skip the roots and scalp entirely—they produce natural oils. Focus on the oldest, most damaged parts of your hair. Use about a quarter-sized amount for shoulder-length hair, adjusting for length and thickness.
- Work it through and wait. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to distribute evenly. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes to allow the conditioning agents to smooth the cuticle and penetrate the hair shaft.
- Rinse with cool water. Cool water helps seal the hair cuticle, locking in moisture and creating smoother, shinier hair. Rinse until the water runs clear to avoid product buildup.
