How to Do a Scalp Detox at Home
A scalp detox removes buildup using gentle clarifying methods and ingredients you already have.
Your scalp is skin, not a magic portal that needs weekly detoxing rituals with twenty ingredients.
- Start with dry brushing. Use a natural bristle brush on dry hair before washing. Work from roots to ends to lift dead skin and distribute oils. This loosens buildup so your cleanse actually reaches your scalp.
- Apply a clarifying rinse. Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water, or dissolve a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water. Pour through hair, massage into scalp for 30 seconds, then rinse. Both options cut through product buildup without stripping.
- Shampoo twice. Use your regular shampoo twice in one session. First wash loosens surface buildup, second wash actually cleans. Focus on massaging your scalp with fingertips, not nails.
- Skip heavy conditioning. Apply conditioner only to mid-lengths and ends, avoiding your scalp entirely. Your scalp produces its own oils and doesn't need extra moisture right after detoxing.
