How to Care for Color-Treated Hair

Protect your color investment with sulfate-free cleansing, weekly deep conditioning, and heat protection to prevent fading and maintain hair health.

  1. Switch to sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates strip color faster than anything else in your routine. Use a gentle, color-safe formula and wash only when your scalp actually needs it—usually every 2-3 days. Your color will thank you by lasting weeks longer.
  2. Deep condition weekly. Color processing opens your hair cuticle, making strands more porous and prone to damage. A weekly protein or moisture mask helps fill in gaps and smooth the cuticle back down. Focus on mid-lengths to ends where color sits.
  3. Rinse with cool water. Hot water opens the cuticle and lets color molecules escape down the drain. Finish every wash with the coolest water you can stand to seal the cuticle and lock color in place.
  4. Apply heat protectant before styling. Heat breaks down color molecules and creates a double whammy of fading and damage. Spray a thermal protectant from mid-length to ends before blow drying or using hot tools. Never skip this step.
  5. Use UV protection for hair. Sun exposure breaks down color faster than almost anything else. Hair SPF or UV-filtering leave-in treatments create a barrier against color-fading rays. Essential for anyone spending time outdoors.
