How to Color Melt Your Crown for Softer Grow-Out

Blend a shade between your roots and lengths through the crown area using gentle upward strokes to create a seamless transition that disguises harsh regrowth lines.

  1. Choose your melt shade. Pick a color exactly halfway between your natural root color and your current hair color. This bridging tone will create the seamless blend you need for a natural-looking transition.
  2. Section your crown. Part your hair down the center and create a horseshoe section around your crown area, from temple to temple. This is where the most obvious regrowth happens and where your melt will make the biggest impact.
  3. Apply with feathering motions. Using a tint brush, apply the melt color with light, upward feathering strokes starting at your roots and blending into the mid-lengths. Work in thin sections and blend while the product is still wet for the smoothest gradient.
  4. Process and blend. Follow your color's processing time, then rinse with cool water and condition. The result should be an invisible transition that makes your grow-out look intentional rather than neglected.
