How to Deep Condition Hair After Bleaching

Apply a protein-moisture balanced deep conditioner to damp hair, leave for 15-30 minutes with heat, then rinse thoroughly.

  1. Check your hair's needs first. Gently stretch a wet strand - if it snaps immediately, you need protein. If it stretches endlessly without bouncing back, you need moisture. Most bleached hair needs both in balance.
  2. Apply to damp, not soaking hair. Towel-dry until hair is damp but not dripping. This prevents diluting the treatment while allowing better penetration than bone-dry strands.
  3. Section and saturate thoroughly. Work the deep conditioner through in 1-inch sections from mid-length to ends, avoiding roots unless they're also bleached. Use more product than you think you need.
  4. Add gentle heat for 15-30 minutes. Cover with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer on low, or wrap in a warm towel. Heat opens the cuticle for deeper penetration without damaging compromised strands.
  5. Rinse with cool water. Use lukewarm to cool water to close the cuticle and lock in the treatment. Rinse until water runs clear but hair still feels slightly slippery.
