How to Do Money Piece Highlights at Home

Money piece highlights frame your face with strategically placed blonde sections at the front hairline using a highlighting cap or foil method.

Money pieces are the gateway drug to going full blonde — start conservative because you can always go lighter, but you cannot go back.

1. Section and prepare. Start with dirty hair for scalp protection. Part your hair down the middle and identify the front sections that frame your face from temple to temple. These are your money pieces.
2. Apply lightener strategically. Using a highlighting cap or foil strips, isolate thin sections from your hairline back about 2 inches. Apply bleach or lightener only to these front pieces, keeping it off your scalp. Work quickly and evenly.
3. Monitor and rinse. Check progress every 10 minutes until you reach desired lightness. Rinse thoroughly with cool water, then apply toner if needed to eliminate brassiness.
