How to Blend Gray at the Temples

Use a small brush to apply color one shade lighter than your base, working in thin sections from the hairline back.

  1. Section your hair. Create a horizontal part from ear to ear, clipping away the top section. Focus only on the temple area where gray is visible. Work with dry hair for better control.
  2. Choose your shade. Select a temporary color one shade lighter than your natural base color. Gray hair is coarser and takes color differently than pigmented hair.
  3. Apply in thin layers. Use a small angled brush to paint color onto individual gray strands, starting closest to your hairline. Build coverage gradually rather than saturating all at once.
  4. Blend the edges. Feather the color application where it meets your natural hair. Use a clean, damp brush to soften any harsh lines between colored and uncolored sections.
