How to Clear Scalp Buildup Without Overdoing It

Use a clarifying shampoo once weekly and massage gently with fingertips, never nails.

  1. Pre-wash with warm water. Saturate hair completely with warm water for two full minutes. This softens buildup and makes removal easier without aggressive scrubbing.
  2. Apply clarifying shampoo to roots only. Focus product on the scalp and root area where buildup occurs. Work through with fingertip pads in small circular motions for 30 seconds.
  3. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if needed. Remove all product with cool water to close hair cuticles. If buildup persists, repeat once more but avoid overdoing it.
  4. Follow with lightweight conditioner. Apply conditioner only to mid-lengths and ends since clarifying can be drying. Leave for two minutes before final rinse.
