How to Make Aloe Leave-In Conditioner at Home

Blend fresh aloe gel with water and a few drops of oil for a lightweight leave-in that smooths without weighing hair down.

  1. Extract fresh aloe gel. Cut a thick aloe leaf and scoop out the clear gel with a spoon, avoiding the yellow latex near the skin. You need about 2 tablespoons of pure gel for shoulder-length hair.
  2. Blend the base. Combine aloe gel with equal parts distilled water in a small blender or whisk vigorously by hand. The mixture should be smooth and slightly thick, not stringy.
  3. Add conditioning oil. Mix in 3-4 drops of lightweight oil like jojoba or argan. This prevents the aloe from drying too tight on your hair while adding slip for detangling.
  4. Apply to damp hair. Work the mixture through towel-dried hair from mid-length to ends, avoiding roots. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
