How to Make DIY Heat Protectant Spray

Mix water, aloe vera gel, and a lightweight oil in a spray bottle for basic heat protection that won't weigh hair down.

  1. Gather your base ingredients. You need distilled water, pure aloe vera gel, and a light oil like argan or jojoba. Distilled water prevents buildup and aloe creates a protective film while adding moisture.
  2. Mix the formula. Combine 1 cup distilled water, 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel, and 1 teaspoon oil in a spray bottle. Shake vigorously until the aloe dissolves completely.
  3. Add optional enhancers. A few drops of glycerin helps lock in moisture, while a drop of essential oil masks any aloe scent. Keep additions minimal to avoid weighing hair down.
  4. Apply and store properly. Spray on damp hair before heat styling, focusing on mid-lengths to ends. Store in the refrigerator and use within two weeks since there are no preservatives.
