How to Make DIY Lavender Scalp Oil
Infuse a carrier oil with dried lavender for 2-4 weeks, then strain for a nourishing scalp treatment.
- Choose your carrier oil. Pick jojoba, sweet almond, or fractionated coconut oil as your base. These absorb well without leaving hair greasy. Avoid heavy oils like castor if you have fine hair.
- Add dried lavender. Use culinary-grade dried lavender buds, about 2 tablespoons per cup of oil. Fresh lavender contains too much moisture and can cause the oil to spoil.
- Infuse slowly. Combine oil and lavender in a clean glass jar and store in a cool, dark place for 2-4 weeks. Shake gently every few days to distribute the botanicals.
- Strain and store. Filter through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer to remove all plant matter. Store the finished oil in a dark glass bottle away from heat and light.
