DIY Mint Scalp Tingle Oil

Infuse carrier oil with fresh mint for a cooling scalp treatment that stimulates circulation.

  1. Choose your base. Use jojoba or sweet almond oil as your carrier—they absorb well without weighing hair down. Avoid coconut oil unless your hair is extremely dry, as it can build up on finer textures.
  2. Prepare the mint. Wash and completely dry fresh mint leaves, then bruise them gently with the back of a spoon. This releases the oils without creating moisture that could spoil your blend.
  3. Infuse the oil. Combine 1/2 cup carrier oil with 2 tablespoons bruised mint in a small saucepan. Heat on lowest setting for 30 minutes—you want warmth, not bubbling. The oil should smell intensely minty.
  4. Strain and store. Pour through a fine mesh strainer into a dark glass bottle. Press the mint to extract every drop of oil. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 3 months.
  5. Apply strategically. Use 1-2 teaspoons on dry scalp before washing. Massage in circles for 2 minutes, then leave for 10 minutes before shampooing. The tingle should feel refreshing, not burning.
