The Overnight Hair Oiling Ritual

Apply warm oil from mid-lengths to ends, wrap in silk, and wash out with shampoo in the morning for deeply nourished hair.

  1. Choose your oil. Argan works for most hair types, coconut for thick hair, jojoba for fine hair. Warm 2-3 tablespoons between your palms until it feels like body temperature.
  2. Section and apply. Part hair into 4-6 sections and work oil through mid-lengths to ends, avoiding roots unless your scalp is particularly dry. Focus on the oldest parts of your hair.
  3. Wrap and protect. Twist hair into a low bun and wrap with a silk scarf or use a silk pillowcase. The goal is to keep oil off your bedding while letting hair breathe.
  4. Morning cleanse. Shampoo twice with your regular cleanser, focusing on removing oil without stripping. Follow with your usual conditioner on ends only.
