How to Make Rice Water Hair Rinse

Soak one cup of rice in two cups of water for 30 minutes, strain, and use the liquid as a final rinse after shampooing.

  1. Choose your rice. Any rice works but jasmine and basmati give the cleanest liquid. Rinse the rice briefly under cold water to remove surface starch and debris.
  2. Create the base. Combine one cup rice with two cups room temperature water in a bowl. Let it sit for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to release the nutrients into the water.
  3. Strain and store. Pour through a fine mesh strainer into a clean container. The liquid should be cloudy white and slightly thick. Use immediately or refrigerate for up to one week.
  4. Apply to clean hair. After shampooing and conditioning, pour the rice water slowly through your hair from roots to ends. Massage gently into your scalp and let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing with cool water.
