How to Make Sea Salt Texture Spray at Home

Mix warm water with sea salt, add a small amount of leave-in conditioner or oil to prevent dryness, then spray on damp hair and scrunch.

Most commercial texture sprays are just expensive salt water with marketing, so making your own is both logical and cost-effective.

  1. Create the base mixture. Dissolve one tablespoon of fine sea salt in one cup of warm water in a spray bottle. Shake until completely dissolved. The warm water helps the salt integrate faster and prevents grittiness.
  2. Add conditioning agents. Mix in half a teaspoon of leave-in conditioner or a few drops of lightweight oil like argan or jojoba. This prevents the salt from over-drying your hair while maintaining texture. Skip this if you have very oily hair.
  3. Apply and activate. Spray evenly on damp hair from mid-length to ends, avoiding the roots. Scrunch sections upward with your hands to enhance natural wave patterns. Let air dry or diffuse on low heat.
