How to Grow Your Edges Back
Stop manipulating them and create the right environment for growth with gentle care and patience.
Most people never get their edges back because they can't resist the urge to style them while they're recovering—it's like picking at a scab.
- Stop the damage immediately. Put away tight headbands, aggressive brushing, and harsh styling products. Your edges need a break from tension and chemicals to recover. This is the hardest step because it means changing your routine.
- Massage with oil nightly. Use your fingertips to gently massage castor oil, jojoba oil, or rosemary oil into your hairline for 2-3 minutes before bed. The massage stimulates blood flow while the oil conditions the follicles and existing hair.
- Sleep on silk. Switch to a silk pillowcase or sleep with a silk scarf tied loosely around your hairline. Cotton creates friction that breaks delicate new growth while you sleep.
- Be patient with styling. When you do style, use the softest brush you own and never pull tight. Leave your edges out of protective styles or secure them so gently there's no tension at all.
