How to Care for Natural Hair
Natural hair thrives with moisture, gentle handling, and protective styling that works with your texture, not against it.
Natural hair is not a project to fix—it's a texture to understand and work with intelligently.
- Start with gentle cleansing. Wash once or twice a week with a sulfate-free shampoo, focusing on your scalp rather than the length. Over-washing strips natural oils that your hair actually needs to stay healthy.
- Deep condition regularly. Use a moisturizing mask weekly to restore hydration and elasticity. Apply from mid-length to ends, cover with a plastic cap, and let it work for 20-30 minutes.
- Detangle when wet. Work through knots with a wide-tooth comb or fingers while your hair is soaked with conditioner. Start at the ends and work up to minimize breakage.
- Seal in moisture. Apply leave-in conditioner to damp hair, then seal with a light oil like jojoba or argan. This locks in hydration and creates a protective barrier.
- Sleep smart. Use a silk or satin pillowcase, or wrap your hair in a silk scarf before bed. Cotton pillowcases create friction that leads to frizz and breakage.
