How to Use Castor Oil for Hair Growth
Apply castor oil to your scalp and hair lengths, massage for 5 minutes, leave for 30 minutes to overnight, then shampoo thoroughly.
The internet obsesses over castor oil like it's liquid hair magic, but the real growth happens from consistent scalp massage and good hair practices, not the oil itself.
- Choose your castor oil. Use cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil for the purest form. Jamaican black castor oil works well too, but regular castor oil is perfectly effective and easier to wash out.
- Section and apply to scalp. Part your hair into 4-6 sections and apply oil directly to your scalp using fingertips or a dropper bottle. Focus on areas where you want growth or notice thinning.
- Massage thoroughly. Use gentle circular motions for 5 minutes to stimulate blood flow. The massage matters more than the oil itself for encouraging growth.
- Distribute through lengths. Work remaining oil through your hair from mid-length to ends if your hair is dry. Skip this step if you have fine or oily hair.
- Time and remove. Leave for 30 minutes minimum, up to overnight with a silk cap or old pillowcase. Shampoo twice with a clarifying shampoo to remove all residue.
