How to Keep Your Wig Looking Fresh
Gentle washing, proper storage, and minimal heat will extend your wig's life significantly.
Most people overwash their wigs and wonder why they look ratty after two months.
- Wash only when necessary. Synthetic wigs need washing every 8-10 wears, human hair every 6-8. Fill a basin with cool water and wig shampoo, never hot water which damages fibers. Gently swish for two minutes without rubbing or scrubbing.
- Condition with care. Apply wig conditioner from mid-length to ends, avoiding the cap area completely. Leave for three minutes, then rinse with cool water until completely clear. Never wring or twist the hair.
- Dry properly. Gently squeeze out excess water with a towel, never rubbing. Place on a wig stand or mannequin head to air dry completely. Synthetic wigs should never see heat tools unless specifically heat-resistant.
- Store correctly. Keep on a wig stand or in the original box to maintain shape. Cover with a silk scarf or breathable bag to prevent dust. Never store damp or in direct sunlight.
