How to Wrap Hair with a Silk Scarf at Night
Wrap damp or styled hair loosely in a silk scarf, securing at the nape to preserve texture and reduce friction while you sleep.
Most people wrap too tightly because they're afraid of it slipping off, but hair needs room to breathe or you'll wake up with weird dents and compressed roots.
- Prep your hair. Start with slightly damp hair or hair styled as desired for the next day. Apply a light leave-in product if your hair tends to be dry, but avoid anything too heavy that will transfer to the scarf.
- Position the scarf. Place a large silk scarf flat on your bed or vanity. The scarf should be big enough to cover your entire head with extra fabric to tie. Square scarves work better than rectangular ones.
- Gather and place. Gently gather your hair at the crown or nape, depending on your length. Place your head on the center of the scarf with your hairline near one edge.
- Wrap and secure. Bring the far edge of the scarf over your hair to meet your hairline, then gather the sides and tie them loosely at the nape. The wrap should feel secure but not tight enough to leave marks or cause tension.
