How to Create a Braided Crown Hairstyle
A braided crown is two Dutch or French braids that wrap around your head and meet at the back, secured with bobby pins.
The braided crown looks complicated but it's just two Dutch braids playing dress-up—master the technique and you'll never need a tiara.
- Prep your hair. Start with day-old hair for better grip. Spray with texturizing spray if your hair is too clean or slippery. Part your hair down the middle from forehead to nape.
- Begin the first braid. Starting at your left ear, take a small section and begin a Dutch braid moving upward toward your forehead. Add hair as you braid along your hairline, keeping the braid tight against your head.
- Continue around the crown. Keep braiding around the curve of your head, following your hairline. When you reach behind your right ear, you'll run out of new hair to add—just continue with a regular braid.
- Start the second side. Repeat the same process on the right side, Dutch braiding from your right ear up and around. This braid should meet the first one at the back of your head.
- Secure and hide the ends. Pin both braid ends under the opposite braid, tucking them completely out of sight. Use bobby pins that match your hair color and insert them at angles for the strongest hold.
