How to Do Bubble Braids
Create sections down your hair with clear elastics every few inches, then gently tug each bubble to add volume.
The bubble braid is Instagram trying to reinvent the ponytail, but the result actually works when you need something that looks intentional with minimal skill required.
- Prep your hair. Start with day-old hair or add texture spray to clean hair. Brush through completely to eliminate any knots that could disrupt the bubble pattern.
- Section and secure the base. Part your hair where you want the braid to sit and gather it into a high or low ponytail. Use a clear elastic to secure tightly at the base.
- Create the first bubble. Measure down about 2-3 inches from your base elastic and secure another clear elastic. Gently pull the hair between the elastics outward to create volume and the bubble effect.
- Repeat down the length. Continue adding elastics every 2-3 inches down your ponytail, tugging each section to create uniform bubbles. Stop when you have about an inch of hair left at the bottom.
- Perfect the shape. Go back through each bubble and adjust the volume by gently pulling the hair outward. Make sure each bubble is roughly the same size for the cleanest look.
