How to Do a Claw Clip Updo
Twist your hair up and back, secure with the claw clip at the crown, and pull out face-framing pieces.
The claw clip updo is the ultimate fake-it-till-you-make-it hairstyle—looks intentional when it's really just Tuesday morning efficiency.
- Prep your hair. Start with day-old hair or add texture spray to clean hair. The slight grip prevents everything from sliding out of the clip.
- Gather and twist. Pull all your hair back toward the crown of your head as if making a ponytail. Twist the length loosely upward, creating volume at the base.
- Position the clip. Open the claw clip and position it horizontally at the crown where your twist meets your head. The clip should catch both the base and the twisted length.
- Secure and adjust. Close the clip firmly, then gently pull out a few face-framing pieces. Loosen the hair at your crown slightly for volume.
